Roads We Don't Choose

Aug 30, 2013

I stop to unlatch the gate
Friendly and light
with a musical sound
Turn there to close it again
Such a small little thing
That can bar my way round

Some doors we don't swing back open
Cast off on roads we don't choose - to go

Stand down and embrace relief
A bit of a memory
that is building a dream
Just there beyond our control
We try to recall it
But just can't be seen

A shadowed glimpse as we've woken
of some ethereal space - we know

Give ear to what's been instructed
Give preference to the things we have kept
Remember every place deconstructed
That were visited again while we slept.

I stop to unlatch the gate
Friendly and light
with a musical sound
Turn there to close it again
Such a small little thing
That can bar my way round

Some doors we don't swing back open
Cast off on roads we don't choose - to go
