Black Velvet Leatherleaf slug

One morning this week, I just happened to notice a slug that was unlike any I had ever seen in my backyard. A quick search revealed that it might be a black velvet leatherleaf slug, a new invasive species in the U.S. that is being tracked by the USDA. I made a contact to a couple of researchers, and one drove an hour to collect it as a sample. They are strikingly black, with a leathery back, and a brown line on the underside that is distinct. See the Texas Invasive Species page for more information, and this webpage to help with identification.
